Lopsided Mound with Cherry Topping 2007 Acrylic enamel on bristol paper

Triple Layered Decadence 2007 Acrylic enamel on bristol paper

Artist Statement

As a girl, I was mesmerized by Dairy Queen’s chocolaty landscape commercials.
It is no wonder then, while living on Hostess Cupcakes at Art Center,
my paint began to look like marbleized ice cream and cake frosting.

I stir the paint in party cups. The syrupy enamel is then slow poured on paper.
As the brush looses its reserve of paint, the stroke becomes heavy and lethargic.
Spontaneity is short lived. I like to experiment with perceived flavors such as banana crème
zigzags, orange scallops, green apple swirls, wild cherry rings, black raspberry dashes, and
lemon lime loops. As imagery comes to fruition, associations abound. There are imaginary
foodstuffs, quirky gizmos, sherbet planets and flying saucers, fluffy treetops, hats
topped with cherries, lopsided mounds, bells, rockets, and bows.
